If your instrument is used frequently, you should clean it every
two months. To do this
- pull the valve slides
- remove the bottom caps
- scrub the interior of the instrument and valve slides with
hot, soapy water
- flush thoroughly with clean, cold water
- wipe the instrument down and let dry before reassembling
When reassembling the instrument
- oil the valves. DO NOT use grease
- grease the valve slides. DO NOT use oil. Also, DO NOT use
Vaseline®. It will pit the brass after prolonged use
- reassemble the instrument. Be sure valves are inserted straight
and in the proper order, and valve guides are pointing in the
proper direction. You can check this by blowing into the lead
pipe after assembly. If the valves are not inserted properly,
air flow will be restricted
